About Us
The Area Agency on Aging 1-B, established in 1974, is a non-profit 501(c)3 agency responsible for services to more than 435,000 persons age 60 and older residing in Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair and Washtenaw counties.
Area Agencies on Aging were established under the Older Americans Act (OAA) in 1973 to respond to the needs of Americans aged 60 and over in every local community. The AAA 1-B is one of 16 area agencies serving the state of Michigan. There are over 650 area agencies across the United States. Area agencies receive funding through the Older Americans Act and other federal, state and county dollars.
Our Mission
The Area Agency on Aging 1-B is dedicated to preserving the independence, dignity, and quality of life of older adults, family caregivers and adults with disabilities residing in Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair and Washtenaw counties by supporting a comprehensive service delivery system and providing access to community-based care.
What We Do
The Area Agency on Aging 1-B provides:
- Information and assistance on thousands of services and resources for older adults, persons with disabilities and their caregivers across our six county region through a centralized call center staffed by certified resource specialists.
- Care management services including in-home assessments and comprehensive care plans for individuals who qualify for government funded programs.
- Advocating on issues of concern to older adults, persons with disabilities and family caregivers.
- Allocating and administering federal, state and private funds to support home and community-based services
- Identifying unmet needs and developing new service programs
