Creating Confident Caregiver® Training

Are you caring for someone with Alzheimer’s, dementia, or memory loss?

The AAA 1-B and the Alzheimer’s Association – Greater Michigan Chapter are offering a FREE educational training program for family members who are caring for a person with a dementia related illness, such as Alzheimer’s Disease, and who live in Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair and Washtenaw Counties.

The Creating Confident Caregivers (CCC) training program has been proven to reduce caregiver stress by providing caregivers with useful tools and information. The CCCprogram is not a support group, but an opportunity to learn new information and strategies that will make the job of caregiving easier and more rewarding. Caregivers will learn about the progression of the disease, how it impacts their loved one, learn strategies to manage difficult behaviors and the importance of taking care of themselves.

Caregivers will learn how to:

  • Reduce caregiver related stress
  • Improve caregiver confidence
  • Create a positive caregiving environment
  • Plan daily activities for your loved one based on their strengths
  • Deal with behaviors caused by dementia and its effects on the brain

The CCC trainings are held for two hours, once a week for six weeks (see below for training locations, dates and times). On site respite care will also be available to participants free of charge. All materials, flyers, and training books are provided by the AAA 1-B, and there is no cost for the caregiver to attend this training. The class is limited to 12 participants. Up to three members from one family can attend a training together. Caregivers should plan to attend all six sessions to get the full benefit from the program.

The Creating Confident Caregivers Program utilizes training methods from the University of Minnesota’s Savvy Caregiver Program. The CCC program is supported, in part, by MDHHS/Aging & Adult Services Agency and the Area Agency on Aging 1-B, in partnership with theThe Alzheimer’s Association – Greater Michigan Chapter.
